The Secret Owl Garden

The Secret Owl Garden is one of Pembrokeshire’s newest visitor attractions and home Wales’ largest collection of owls. With the support of Pembrokeshire Lottery funding the centre opened its doors in May located in the Blue Bell Walk at Picton Castle, near Haverfordwest. The centre has been developed to share a love of owls and get visitors an up close encounter.
Throughout the day the owls each get the opportunity to stretch their wings and fly free around the centre. The team also run family friendly interactive sessions where you can learn about the owls and their super powers including silent flight, super hearing and special eye colours. The owls like come along to demonstrate their skills and give everyone an up close look! For visitors who want to have a more hands on experience The Secret Owl Garden offer group taster sessions and private experiences. Group taster sessions are run throughout the day and can be booked on arrival at the shop. These 45 minute sessions give guests the chance to fly an owl to their gloved hand on the castle lawn– the perfect photo opportunity! Private experiences offer guests the chance to fly three different species of owl through the beautiful woodland gardens, calling them down to the glove.

Pembrokeshire Wake Park

With the support of Pembrokeshire Lottery Loan we have had our first successful season on the water. Pembrokeshire Wake Park is only the second cable wakeboarding system to open in Wales and has allowed both locals and tourists the opportunity to try out and progress in a great new sport. We have created 6 new jobs and all our members of staff have received new qualifications in cable operating and coaching. Alongside the Wake Park we also run a shop and café, which has proven very popular with spectators. We will continue to grow the business, bringing in more activities for all age groups with our overall goal to get people outdoors, enjoying Pembrokeshire and eager for more.

Pembrokeshire Safari Tours

Owner Joe Diment says "Pembrokeshire Safari Tours are extremely thankful to Pembrokeshire Lottery for a loan of £10,000. This helped us towards our Land Rover Defender purchase, marketing and branding. It has also enabled us to provide one full time job, with the potential of more in the future. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Pembrokeshire Lottery for all their help and allowing us to fulfil our mission of showcasing the many beautiful beaches, coastal views, local produce and heritage Pembrokeshire has to offer."

Your Pembrokeshire Lottery - still creating jobs, still great odds and still only £1 a week!

Hello and welcome to your Spring / Summer 2017 Pembrokeshire Lottery Newsletter

Looking out of the window at the pouring rain, it doesn’t feel much like Summer yet, but it’s been a while since the last newsletter, so we thought we’d get in touch with your Spring / Summer edition!

As usual, our Investment Panel members have been busy with new applications for interest free loans and we’re grateful for their time and expertise. The total amount loaned out to Pembrokeshire businesses now exceeds £5.5million and this would not be possible without our Investment Panel.

Of course, none of this would be possible without you, our players. Your £1 a week is not only helping create more jobs in Pembrokeshire, it’s also giving you the chance to win £2,000 in the weekly draw and £8,000 or even £10,000 in the quarterly Superdraws!

Someone wins EVERY week with the Pembrokeshire Lottery!

Because every player has a unique lottery number, rather than a combination of numbers, there’s a guaranteed winner every week! Here’s just a few of our weekly £2,000 winners since your last newsletter.

Late September saw Anne Thomas from Llandissilio scoop the £2,000 prize. Anne was lovely lady and certainly deserved a treat. She had recently booked a holiday, so the money was ear marked as extra spending money.

Alan and Myfanwy Lewis from Lamphey were winners in October. They were so surprised to receive the winners phone call and treated themselves to a holiday with their winnings.

October was also a lucky month for Wendy Nock from Moreton, Saundersfoot. She hadn’t quite got over the shock when we met, so hadn’t decided what to do with her windfall, but thought it would go towards making Christmas extra special!

Our first winner in November was Amada Absalom-Lowe from Haverfordwest. After a tough couple of years. The win came just at the right time for her. She also does a lot to help local charities too, so a well deserving winner.

Another winner in November was Allana Jones from Letterston. She was definite about what to spend her winnings on, extra presents and treats for her grandchildren at Christmas. We hope she treated herself too!

Pembrokeshire County Council kindly run a salary deduction scheme for us and this winner, Dylan Lawrence, plays through the scheme. Mr Lawrence is Deputy Head at Monkton Priory School.

Our first £2,000 winner in December was Islwyn Jones from Merlins Bridge. Of course, winning during December meant only one thing, an extra special Christmas for the Jones family!

Mid December saw a win for Mike Cole from Milford Haven. Mr Cole had played for a long time through a salary deduction scheme run by Price & Kelway Solicitors and he had continued to support us after he retired. Mike told us the money would fund a trip to Rome, accompanying his son as he presented his thesis on Cannon Law for his doctorate.

Winning on 21st December meant an early Christmas present for Meryl Hancock from Haverfordwest. Meryl told us she was going to use her winnings towards a planned family trip to Lapland.

Pearl Thomas from Tenby saw the New Year in with a £2,000 win. Pearl was a lovely lady who had been supporting us for quite a while, so it was lovely to meet her and say thank you with a nice big cheque!

Another January winner was Mair Lewis from Fishguard. Mair and her husband had just moved house, so her winnings were to be spent on a new bathroom.

Our last January winner was Tara Panesar from Haverfordwest. Tara hadn’t decided what to spend the money on when we met, but with three young sons in the house, she didn’t think she’d have too much trouble!

Meet Simon Holt from Tenby, who was our first winner in February. Simon, who works at W.P. Lewis was off to New York on holiday and told us his win meant that a spending spree in the Big Apple was now a reality, rather than a dream!

Hywel Dda Health Board also run a salary deduction scheme for us and Lesley Griffiths, who works at Tenby Cottage Hospital, won through the scheme in February. Lesley told us she’d be treating the family to a holiday with her unexpected windfall.

John Hughes, from Milford Haven only lives up the road from the Pembrokeshire Lottery office, so was down in a flash to collect his cheque when we called him to say he’d won. As it all happened so quickly, he hadn’t had time to think about what he’d spend it on, but we hope he treated himself to something nice!

February also saw a win for Ruth Francis. Ruth, from Pembroke, is a member of the Country Market Collective there and we met her at the Town Hall on market day.

March was lucky for Richard Scalisi from Haverfordwest. He was in New York at a family wedding when he won, so we caught up with him the week after at County Hall, where he works. With £2,000 he can book a return trip now!

Another March winner was John Mathews from Milford Haven. John is Caretaker at Milford Haven School and plays through the Pembrokeshire County Council salary deduction scheme.

Our latest March winner was Jonathan Williams from Pembroke.

£10,000 Christmas Superdraw winner

The 2016 Christmas Superdraw was held on Wednesday 7th December. The lucky winner was Sarah Das, formerly of Narberth. The draw was aired live on 102.5 Radio Pembrokeshire but presenter Chris Blumer wasn’t able to get through to her on the telephone to break the happy news. However, we got hold of her later that day and learned that her work had taken her out of the area. Mrs Das’ mother still lives in Narberth though and was very happy to accept the cheque on her daughters’ behalf. Sarah told us that the win would bring her one step nearer to her dream of returning home to Wales.

£8,000 Spring Superdraw winner

Our Spring Superdraw was held on Wednesday 8th March and the lucky winners were Ronald and Sheila Sampson. Mr and Mrs Sampson live in East Grinstead, but spend a month in St Davids every year. They told us they joined the Pembrokeshire Lottery some time ago as they love Pembrokeshire and wanted to do something to help support the County. We’ll be catching up with them for a photograph when they visit again next month.

Dates for you diary...

Someone wins £2,000 EVERY week with the Pembrokeshire Lottery, but 4 times a year, the usual weekly prize increases when we hold a Superdraw. The Summer Superdraw, with a fantastic prize of £8,000 will be on Wednesday 7th June.

The loan was used to help build a dedicated Training and Distribution Centre for ProNails and also created a Marketing & Sales position. This loan has helped greatly in moving the business forward to a new level, so thank you Pembrokeshire Lottery for all your support!”

ETTS Ltd.

Owner Ian Butherway says “a long established (1953) Pembrokeshire business, we are now about to embark on our next stage of expansion. Our Autumn 2016 Newsletter

Pembrokeshire Lottery

Hello and welcome to your Autumn 2016 Pembrokeshire Lottery Newsletter.

Well the kids are back to school now, so we thought it was about time for the Autumn Newsletter. Read on to see what’s been happening at your Pembrokeshire Lottery so far this year.

As usual, our Investment Panel members have been busy with new applications for interest free loans and we’re grateful for their time and expertise.

Of course, none of this would be possible without you, our players. Your £1 a week is not only giving you the chance to win with our weekly draws, but it’s also making a big difference to our County’s economy by helping to create more jobs. So far, we’ve loaned out over £5.3 million, interest free, to businesses in Pembrokeshire.

Someone wins EVERY week with the Pembrokeshire Lottery!

When we meet our winners to deliver their winnings, we always ask if they’ve decided what to treat themselves to. The most popular answer by far is a holiday. Perhaps we should start paying our prize money in travellers cheques! Here’s just a few of our weekly £2,000 winners since your last newsletter.

Dawn George from Haverfordwest was a winner in April. Dawn, like many other winners in the past, told us she was thinking of booking a holiday with her winnings. The postcard must have got lost in the post!

Another April winner was Kevin Winstone. Kevin, who works for Millbay Homes in Haverfordwest, hadn't decided what to spend the money on when we met, but he very kindly offered to buy cakes for everyone in the office. Sweet!

April also saw David Mumford from Tenby winning £2,000. David told us he was just starting to plan a holiday in Crete for later on in the year, so he was chuffed to bits when he won. Another postcard that must have got lost in the post!

John Rowlands was a £2,000 winner in May. John, who lives in Llanstadwell had been a supporter of the Pembrokeshire Lottery for some years, so it was lovely to meet him and deliver his cheque. He is a keen traveller and was planning a lengthly trip abroad later on this year, so the money helped to fund his travels.

May also brought good luck to Ann Williams from Llandeloy. Ann is pictured with her husband and Kipper the dog, who was dreaming about £2,000 worth of doggy treats no doubt! Ann and her husband were just about to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, so their win meant it would be an extra special party!

Another May winner was Kelly Rawlings. Kelly works for Crossroads Care, a charity that provides support and respite for unpaid carers in Mid & West Wales, so it was especially nice to treat someone who does so much to help others in our area. Kelly was still getting over the shock when we met and had no idea what she was going to do with the money. We hope you spoiled yourself rotten Kelly, you deserve it!

Our first £2,000 winner in June was Gareth Morris from Saundersfoot. We caught up with Gareth on the set of Saundersfoot Footlights upcoming show as he is part of their production team. Gareth, who works at Folly Farm, told us he’d already booked this year’s holiday and the extra £2,000 would make it a trip to remember.

Saundersfoot was a lucky place to live in June as we also saw Margaret Griffiths from the village picking up £2,000. Margaret planned to use her winnings to pay some bills. Good thinking Margaret, but we hope you kept a little bit back to spoil yourself too!

Eifion Evans from Maenclochog was also a winner in June. Eifion, who is the proprietor of Siop Y Sgwar in the village was very pleased with his win. He hadn't made up his mind what to do with his winnings when we met, but as one regular in the shop commented, his customers were all willing to help him spend it!

Our last winner in June was Andrea Williams from Tenby. Mr and Mrs Williams hadn't decided what to do with their windfall when we met - what a nice dilemma to have!

Our first winner in July was Rachel Harries from Neyland. Rachel, who works in the crèche at Withybush Hospital plays through a salary deduction scheme, kindly run for us by Hywel Dda Health Board. She still couldn’t quite believe it when we met her, but thought a shopping spree may be in order!

Another £2,000 went to Ruth Coombs in July. Ruth, who is the owner of Bear Necessities sweet shop in Haverfordwest was yet another winner planning to treat herself to a holiday with her winnings (as soon as she could find her passport that is!) We hope you found it Ruth and it’s now booked.

It was Bethan Jones-Hughes turn for the “good news phone-call” in July. Bethan, who is a teacher at Sir Thomas Picton School, plays through a salary deduction scheme run by Pembrokeshire County Council. And what was she planning to spend her winnings on, I hear you ask? Well, as the Summer holidays were just getting underway, Bethan told us it would mean 6 weeks of not having to think about money before saying yes to days out with the kids! As we write, there’s only a couple of weeks left before the new term, so we hope you’re all having a smashing time!

Shelagh Shepherd from Johnston was a winner in August. Shelagh told us her plans for the windfall were a new mobile and extra spending money for a holiday to New York planned for next year. Hope you have a fabulous time!

Another August winner was Debbie Lowe, pictured outside our office in Milford Haven with her daughter Kaylee. It was Debbie's 50th birthday that week, so she had taken the week off. When we rang her, she'd just been out to lunch with the family, so she came to collect her cheque straight away (well, you would, wouldn't you!) Debbie told us the money would be put away for a family holiday next year. But it was a milestone birthday Debbie, so we hope you bought yourself a birthday treat too!

August also saw Mrs Lynda Mary Jones from Hakin scooping £2,000. Lynda, who works for Consort Claudgen in Milford Haven played through a salary deduction scheme they kindly run for us and had been a supporter for a good while, so it was lovely to share the good news with her. Plans for the cash include some decorating and much spoiling of the grandchildren!

Our last winner in August was Cerie Davies. Cerie, who's from Hayscastle is a tutor at Pembrokeshire College and plays through their salary deduction scheme. And what will she do with her winnings? Apparently, she's always wanted a log burning stove, so she plans to finally treat herself to one. Now she'll get a warm feeling every time she thinks of us!

Meet our first £2,000 winner in September, Ken Davis from Neyland. Ken is a long time supporter of the lottery, so it was wonderful to meet him and present his winnings. He's not sure what he'll spend the money on yet, but we think he deserves a treat.

More lucky players join our Superdraw Winners Club!

£8,000 Summer Superdraw Winner

And here she is.....our very lucky £8,000 Summer Superdraw winner, Helen Townsend from Pembroke with her children Ella and James and Pembrokeshire Lottery Manager, Abigail Owens. Helen hadn't told the kids where they were going or why, so when they arrived at our office and we told them how much their Mum had won, it's safe to say they were rather excited! And what will Helen's windfall be spent on? She was still too shocked to have given it much thought, but as they left (still beaming) the children were both giving Mum their wish lists!

£8,000 Autumn Superdraw Winner

Our lucky Autumn Superdraw winner was Linda Griffiths from Neath. Although they live out of the area, Mr and Mrs Griffiths holiday in Tenby every year and joined the Pembrokeshire Lottery to support our County. When we presented their cheque, they still hadn’t decided what to spend the money on, but perhaps it could fund the next few years’ trips to Tenby!

Coedcanlas Honey

A word from Nick and Annette Tonkin at Coedcanlas – “Our honey is gathered from a multitude of Pembrokeshire's wild flowers, Bluebells, Dandelions, May, Blackberries and wild Clovers..... It is full of delicate and aromatic flavours that we go to great lengths to preserve. Filtered using only gravity and time, our goal is for you to taste the honey exactly as the bees left it in the comb. Delicious, unadulterated and pure.” Their product range also includes Seville orange marmalade, Maple Syrup, Honey Soap and Crab Apple Jelly. These are imported from specialist artisan producers. The funding provided by Pembrokeshire Lottery will allow for further growth.

Little & Large Lite Bites

Debbie Ludlow, owner of Little & Large Lite Bites in Saundersfoot says “Because of our frustrations as parents of lack of offerings with flexibility of food and location for young children, we decided to look for somewhere within the village to cater for locals as well as tourists with families. Pembrokeshire Lottery enabled us to build and furnish our kids play area and our spacious dining area.

Since we have opened in mid August, we have had a very successful start with excellent feedback from everyone. We have also employed local people, of which several are employed all year round.”

Spring 2016 Newsletter

Pembrokeshire Lottery

Hello and welcome to your Spring 2016 Pembrokeshire Lottery Newsletter.

Now it's officially Springtime, we thought we'd get in touch and let you know what's been happening at your Pembrokeshire Lottery so far this year.

In 2015, we celebrated loaning out our 5 millionth pound to another Pembrokeshire business and if the first few months of 2016 are anything to go by, we won't be slowing down any time soon!

Of course, none of this would be possible without you, our players. Your £1 a week is not only giving you the chance to win with our weekly draws, but it's also making a big difference to our County's economy by helping to create more jobs.

As always, we must mention our Board of Directors and the members of our Loan Panel, all of whom give their time and expertise voluntarily and deserve our grateful thanks.

Someone wins EVERY week with the Pembrokeshire Lottery!

Here's just a few of our weekly £2,000 winners since your last newsletter.

Our first winner in 2016 was Chris Absalom from Johnston. Chris worked at Withybush Hospital and played through their salary deduction scheme. We were so pleased for him as he told us the £2,000 meant he had reached his target for a house deposit! Chris is pictured at the family business, the Railway Inn in Johnston.

Another winner in January was Vanda Thorpe, also from Johnston. Vanda worked at Tesco in Haverfordwest and one of her colleagues heard her name being announced on Radio Pembrokeshire. Vanda told us the money was going to go on a car for her daughter and a holiday to North Wales. She was a lovely lady and well deserving of a win.

February brought a win for Mrs Hilary Tonks from Stepaside, shown with her husband John (spot the deliberate mistake - good job we got the right year on the real cheque!) When we phoned Hilary to give her the good news, she was at work. Turns out she is a volunteer at the Tenovus charity shop in Tenby, so it was extra nice to treat someone who gives their time to help others in Pembrokeshire.

Our last winner in February John Williams from St Davids, pictured here with his lovely wife, who was celebrating her birthday that same day. When we met, John hadn't decided what he was going to do with his windfall, but he assured us that he'd be treating his wife to an evening out for her birthday. What a gentleman!

March brought good luck to Milford Haven, when Michael & Mary Jenkins received their winners' phone call. Mr and Mrs Jenkins were too shocked to know what they're going to spend their £2,000 winnings on but we hope they treated themselves to something special!

Another March winner was Karen Griffiths from Broad Haven. When we asked what she planned to do with her winnings, she said she'd be treating her children to something nice. But at the time, she was packing for a 3 day trip away with friends, so we're hoping an extra £2,000 ensured it was a great get away.

More lucky players joins our Superdraw Winners Club!

£10,000 Christmas Superdraw

December 9th 2015 saw our second £10,000 Christmas Superdraw and the lucky winner was Mr Keith Young from Clynderwen, with lottery number 32980.

After Mr Young's name was announced live on 102.5 Radio Pembrokeshire, presenter Jay Curtis tried to call him to break the happy news on air, but couldn't get an answer. We made contact with him later on that afternoon and Mr Young collected his cheque from the Lottery office in Milford Haven the following day.

When we asked what he planned to spend his winnings on, Keith said "I haven't had a chance to really think about it yet, I'm still getting over the shock, but certainly some extra Christmas presents to start with!" Well, there's never a bad time to win £10,000 but we think a couple of weeks before Christmas would take some beating!

£8,000 Spring Superdraw

Our Spring Superdraw was held on Wednesday 9th March and the lucky player who scooped the £8,000 prize was Margaret John from Pembroke Dock.

The draw was broadcast live on 102.5 Radio Pembrokeshire but presenter Jay Curtis couldn't get hold of Mrs John on air. We reached her soon after though and learned she'd been in bed under the weather. Thankfully, she was able to collect her winning cheque later on that day.

In answer to the usual question of "What will you do with the money?" Mrs John said "The plan is to pay off some bills and paint the house in the Spring. I still can't believe it, I never win anything!" Well, buy that paint now Margaret, because the sun is shining.

Pembrokeshire Lottery kindly gave me this opportunity with an interest free loan to help along with the set up of Angharads Health & Beauty Salon in Croesgoch. The loan has contributed to furnishing the salon treatment rooms and allowed me to purchase essential beauty equipment.

Winter 2015

Pembrokeshire Lottery

Hello and welcome to your Winter 2015 Pembrokeshire Lottery Newsletter.

With Summer a distant memory and the shops already full of Christmas goodies, it’s time for our Winter Newsletter. So for a roundup of all our news (all of it good) read on!

2015 has been a wonderful year so far, with close to half a million pounds loaned out, interest free to a wide-ranging group of businesses, both old and new in Pembrokeshire.

As you may already know, we reached a major milestone earlier on in the year, when we loaned out our £5millionth pound to another local business, Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm in St Davids.

Of course, none of this would be possible without you, our players! Your £1 a week is not only giving you the chance to win with our weekly draws, but it’s also making a big difference to our County’s economy, and helping to create jobs.

As always, we must mention our Board of Directors and the members of our Loan Panel, all of whom give their time and expertise voluntarily and deserve our grateful thanks.

Winners, winners everywhere!

So, were you one of our lucky winners in 2015? Someone wins EVERY week with the Pembrokeshire Lottery and everyone seems to know someone who’s won! Here’s just a few of our weekly £2,000 winners since your last newsletter.

Hywel Dda Health Board is one of the many local businesses who kindly run payroll deduction schemes for us. Our first featured winner, Adele Morgan, works at Withybush General Hospital and plays through their payroll scheme. Adele, who is a physiotherapist, hadn’t decided what to treat herself to when we met, but we’re sure it was well spent!

Christine Bevan from Tavernspite was a winner in June. When we met to present her cheque, Christine was still getting over the shock but thought she might treat the family to a holiday with her winnings.

Alison Williams won £2,000 in July. Alison who’s from Pembroke, was looking forward to a forthcoming holiday, so her win meant that extra spending money was sorted and the new bathroom on her wish list became a reality!

Another July winner was Caroline Nicholas from Robeston Wathen.  Caroline told us that her £2,000 would go towards some jobs on the house and a holiday later on in the year. We’re wondering where you went in the end Caroline and hoping you had a great time.

August saw another payroll deduction scheme winner, but this time from Pembrokeshire County Council. Angela Mathias works at Milford Haven Leisure Centre and planned to spend some of the money on home improvements and the rest on treats for the family.

Linda Twose also won in August. Linda from Llawhadden, was listening to the draw on Radio Pembrokeshire when she heard her name being announced live on air. What a wonderful surprise!

£2,000 also went to Maria Sky in September. Maria, pictured here with her family was sure she’d have no trouble finding ways to spend the money as her children had already started re-writing their Christmas lists!

Another lucky player joins our Superdraw Winners Club!

Moira Reynolds is the latest player to win a Pembrokeshire Lottery Superdraw jackpot. Moira, from Mathry, won £8,000 prize in the Autumn Superdraw, held on Wednesday 9th September.

The draw was aired live on 102.5 Radio Pembrokeshire but presenter James Southon wasn’t able to get through to Moira on the telephone to break the happy news. What James didn’t know was Moira had been having problems with her telephone and it was only when friends told her they’d heard her name on the radio that she called the Pembrokeshire Lottery to check.

Moira, said “I never win anything, so I thought it couldn’t be me. Even when my husband told me to ring, I still didn’t really believe it!” Later on the same day Moira collected her cheque from the Pembrokeshire Lottery office in Milford Haven and is pictured here with Lottery manager Abigail Owens.

When asked what she planned to spend her winnings on, Moira said “I’m going to keep it in the bank for a while till the shock has worn off and then I’ll decide.”

Dates for you diary…

Someone wins £2,000 EVERY week with the Pembrokeshire Lottery, but don’t forget, 4 times a year, the usual weekly prize increases when we hold a Superdraw.
The next Superdraw will be the £10,000 Christmas Superdraw on Wednesday December 9th

Where your £ a week goes

Did you know all the money raised by the Lottery goes into a loan fund? Local businesses can apply for an interest free loan from this fund, which helps create more jobs in Pembrokeshire.  Here’s just a few of the most recent loan recipients.

The Harbour Brewery, Tenby

Tenby Harbour Brewery produces three core ales on its 5-barrel brewery, using locally grown green hops as well as the finest ingredients from the UK and around the world. Directors Mike Evans & Doug Waters had the idea for establishing a brewery many years ago, but the project only started in earnest once planning permission and funding were in place in late 2014. Mike Evans says “We are very grateful to the Pembrokeshire Lottery for their support”.

The Brewery is offering a brewery tour package, called the Hops & Hwyl experience where groups can learn about the brewing process and retire upstairs to the atmospheric and stylish mezzanine for more craft ale and some locally-sourced Welsh tapas.

Merlins Magic, Haverfordwest

Merlins Magic, an indoor play facility in Haverfordwest, received an interest free loan in late July this year. The funding will help with a range of equipment as they transform the Toddler Playroom into a new Sensory Room.

The Swan Inn, Little Haven

The Swan Inn also received a loan in July to assist in their re-launch. The 200 year old seaside inn boasts blazing log fires, old settles and a spectacular pewter topped bar.

Sticks & Stones, Milford Haven

Owner Leighton Edwards says “Stick & Stones Interiors specialise in Kitchens, Bathrooms ,Wood Flooring and all types of Natural and Porcelain Wall and Floor tiles as well as supplying all the maintenance products to compliment.
Our aim was to expand our product portfolio offering our customers quality branded products at competitive prices. To do this we wanted to increase and refurbish our showroom space to bring in displays of these new products. Thanks to the Pembrokeshire lottery we were able to achieve this vision and can now offer customers a viewing platform for our new and existing products to let them see first hand what they will be buying, together with the professional advice and designs from our staff to achieve the look they want for their home. We would like to thank the Pembrokeshire Lottery again for the opportunity to grow our business and offer these products to our customers.”

The perfect Christmas present for the person who has everything!

If you’re struggling for inspiration this Christmas, why not let the Pembrokeshire Lottery solve all your problems with our Gift Subscriptions!

You can choose either a 6 month subscription for only £26 or a full year for £52. Summer 2015

Pembrokeshire Lottery

Hello again and welcome to your Pembrokeshire Lottery Summer Newsletter!

Looking out of the rainy window today, it’s pretty hard to believe we’re in July, but it’s definitely time for the Summer Newsletter, so read on below for all our latest news……

Our latest Superdraw winner

June saw the Spring Superdraw and lucky Linda Favorido scooped the £8,000 prize.  Linda works as a driver for Silcox Coaches and plays through their payroll deduction scheme.
If you listen to the draws on Radio Pembrokeshire, you'll have heard we managed to get Linda on the phone live on air to break the good news (with cheers from her bus passengers in the background!) However, Linda thought she'd won the usual £2,000 and it wasn't till we rang her back off air, she realised she'd won £8,000!

When we met at the Silcox office later on, Linda was in no doubt where the money was going - on a new Jeep for her and a pony for her niece. Linda, you'll certainly be the favourite Aunty!

Dates for your diary

The next £8,000 Superdraw will be on September 9th and the £10,000 Christmas Superdraw will be on December 9th.

Winners, winners everywhere!

Of course, in between the Superdraws, we have a £2,000 prize every week, so below you’ll find a selection of winners since your last newsletter.

Sharon Wostenholme from New Hedges won £2,000 in April. Sharon planned to spend her winnings on a family holiday. The postcard must have got lost in the post (We always ask but we've never had one yet!)

Phillip Rogers from Pembroke was also a winner in April. He was so surprised when we met and had absolutely no idea what he was going to spend the money on. What a nice dilemma….

May saw Jean Read scoop a £2,000 prize. Mr and Mrs Read had just booked a trip away for their wedding anniversary later on this year, so the unexpected win meant spending money was well & truly sorted. And a few days later, we received a lovely thank you card from them too!

Other recent winners, who were a little camera shy include Adele Morgan from Milford Haven,  Susan Aylward from Fishguard,  Llinos Davies from Cardigan and Geoff Evans from Kilgetty, all now £2,000 richer. Congratulations all!

We have some amazing news we think is definitely worth shouting about..…..

We have loaned out our 5 Millionth pound!

We've done it! We're very proud to announce that Pembrokeshire Lottery has loaned out its 5 millionth pound!

Fifteen years later in 2009, Celtic Foodservices Ltd received the three millionth pound and the business receiving the five millionth pound is Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm in St Davids. The Bug Farm, which is the brainchild of Dr Sarah Beynon, an award winning entomologist will consist of a visitor attraction and an education and research centre built around the key theme of invertebrates (bugs!) The Bug Farm will also be the home of The Grub Kitchen, an innovative restaurant run by Dr Beynon’s partner Andy Holcroft, where bugs will definitely be on the menu!

Pembrokeshire Lottery Company Secretary, Bob Clarke said “I am delighted to see the Pembrokeshire Lottery reaching this milestone. As a community scheme, it was the first of its type in the UK and it remains one of the most successful self funding, long term economic regeneration schemes in the Country. Spring 2015

Pembrokeshire Lottery

Hello and welcome to your Pembrokeshire Lottery Spring Newsletter!

With the colder Winter months now hopefully behind us, it’s time for our Spring Newsletter.

We’ve held another Superdraw since your last newsletter. The Spring Superdraw was drawn on 11th March and the lucky winners were Mr and Mrs Hartley from Haverfordwest with lottery number 03602.

The draw was announced live on Radio Pembrokeshire and we phoned Mrs Hartley whilst still on air. We’re not sure she believed us at first, but she certainly did when we handed over the cheque! Here they are receiving their£8,000 cheque from Pembrokeshire Lottery manager Abigail Owens.

If it wasn’t you this time, don’t forget the Superdraws are a bit like buses – there’s always another one on the way! We’re already counting down to the Summer Superdraw, which will be held on 10th June, so good luck!

Of course, in between the Superdraws, someone wins £2,000 EVERY week and here’s just a few of our recent weekly winners.

Recent £2,000 winners

Louise Hurlow from Tenby was a winner in January. Louise works at Pembroke School and plays through a salary deduction scheme run by Pembrokeshire County Council. When we met, Louise was still getting over the shock of winning, so hadn’t decided what to do with her winnings. Not a bad dilemma to have though!

A fortnight later, we had another winner, Barbara Fitzgerald from Haverfordwest, who also played by salary deduction with Pembrokeshire County Council!

Both the Council and Hywel Dda Health Board run large salary deduction schemes for us, with lots of employees choosing to play this way. Many other smaller private businesses kindly run schemes for us too, so this is an ideal opportunity to say a big thank you to them all!

A full list of all these companies can be found on our website.

Our first February winner was Joan Thomas from Templeton. When we met Joan and her husband, she told us the timing was perfect as it was their 20th wedding anniversary the day before. They were going to Cardiff to watch the rugby the following day and Joan said that there may well be some extra shopping on the cards before the match!
Ian Harries from Pembroke was also a winner in February. Mr Harries told us his winnings would go towards a holiday in Mexico. His birthday was coming up too, so another case of perfect timing!

Where your £1 a week goes……

The profit raised by the Pembrokeshire Lottery goes into a loan fund and Pembrokeshire businesses can apply for an interest free loan from this fund, to help them create more jobs in the County.

So far, we have worked with over 330 local businesses and loaned out £4.7 million. At the time of the loans, this has created over 1,600 jobs, but as many of the businesses have grown over the years and employed more people, this number has grown considerably.

The loan applications are assessed by our Investment Panel, who all work voluntarily. As always, we are very grateful for their time and expertise.

We’ve been catching up with some of our past loan recipients to see how things have been going since we worked with them.

Recent loan recipients

Winter 2014 / 2015

Pembrokeshire Lottery

Hello and welcome to your Pembrokeshire Lottery Winter Newsletter!

With Christmas just around the corner, we wanted to get in touch to keep you up to date with all our news here at the Pembrokeshire Lottery. It’s been a hectic year that’s seen lots of new loans and lots of new lottery winners.

Speaking of winners, our first Christmas Superdraw was held on Wednesday 10th December and the lucky player who had an early Christmas present of £10,000 was Amanda McCabe from Narberth. Amanda, who plays through a salary deduction scheme run by her employer FBM, told us that the money is going to buy her a new car. Perfect timing apparently, as her old one is on it’s last legs!

Here she is receiving the winning cheque from Manager Abigail Owens at the Pembrokeshire Lottery office in Milford Haven.

If it wasn’t you this time, don’t worry, there’s a £2,000 winner every week and we’ve already started saving up for our next quarterly Superdraw on March 11th with a prize of £8,000!

Here’s a few of our most recent £2,000 winners.

Mr and Mrs Cox from Pembroke Dock won in October and are pictured with their lovely daughter. Mrs Cox told us that their winnings were being put aside to make Christmas extra special this year. Lots of presents under the tree for one lucky little girl then!

Eileen John won in October too and told us that she really hadn’t decided what to do with her winnings, but may treat herself to a spending spree. Well, whatever you decided Eileen, we hope you enjoyed it!

One of our November winners was Mrs Griffiths from Pembroke. A lovely lady and so surprised when we rang her! Making that phone call to the winner every Wednesday really is the best part of the job!

Beryl Thomas from Milford Haven had had quite a year due to ill health, so it was a lovely surprise for her to be a winner. Beryl told us she planned to have a little spending spree. And why not!

Matt Fletcher was a winner this month. Matt, who works in Jewson, Pembroke, is planning on treating himself to an X Box as an early Christmas present to himself. Happy Christmas Matt!

The volunteer Investment Panel members have been busy meeting lots of loan applicants lately. As always, we are very grateful for their time and expertise. Here’s a small selection of some of the local businesses who’ve received interest free loans from the Pembrokeshire Lottery since your last newsletter.

Boutique Bar & Bistro Tenby

Owner Nick Jones says “At Boutique Bar & Bistro in Tenby, we cook chic, rustic, honest food from past and present whilst tailoring for the future. Whether It’s lunch, dinner or cocktails, Boutique is perfect. Intimate, elegant and relaxed, you’ll feel right at home.

We currently employ 4 staff and 6 during the summer, we have had great feedback and people come from miles to try our great food, carefully selected wines, award winning beers and cocktails.

None of this would have been possible without the help of the Pembrokeshire lottery, the loan that we were granted has helped with finishing the bar, stocking the restaurant and interior design touches. We are very grateful for the help the Pembrokeshire Lottery has given us and we hope they continue to help and support local businesses for a long time to come.”  Boutiquebarandbistro.co.uk - St Julian St, Tenby 01834 844555

The Pembrokeshire Brewing Co.

Daryl Flannery from the Pembrokeshire Brewing Co says “The Pembrokeshire Brewing co. recently opened in the Old School, Saundersfoot as a micro brewery / visitor centre.  The concept of this was to enable people to see the traditional way to brew real ale and sample the beers accordingly.  We found there was a growing demand for bottled beers and thanks to a loan from the Pembrokeshire Lottery we were able to purchase bottling and labelling equipment to expand our customer base.”

Pembrokeshire Lottery

Hello again and welcome to the Summer/Autumn newsletter

What a lovely summer it’s been too! The Pembrokeshire Lottery team have been especially busy lately, not only working with lots of fabulous new businesses but also getting organised for the new Lottery Superdraws. We’ve had some brilliant feedback regarding the new prize structure and after counting down the weeks till the first ever £8000 draw, it was held on Wednesday 10th September and here’s the lucky winner!

Many congratulations to Mr Malcolm Harts from Jeffreyston with lottery number 4046. Malcolm, who plays through a salary deduction scheme run by Pembrokeshire County Council has been a supporter of the Pembrokeshire Lottery for many years.  When we asked him what he planned to spend his winnings on, Malcolm told us he hadn’t decided yet, but with a young grandchild around we think treats for the family will be top of his list!

If it wasn’t you this time, don’t forget the new Superdraws will be held 4 times a year and the next one will be the Christmas Superdraw. This will be drawn on Wednesday 10th December, awarding a massive £10,000!

The Superdraw dates for 2015 will be:

11th March               £8,000
10th June                 £8,000
9th September         £8,000
9th December          £10,000

And of course, our usual £2,000 weekly prize continues in between the Superdraws.

Here’s a few of our most recent £2,000 winners.

Here’s Alun Williams, who won in April. Alun, who owns Celtic Scooters & Motorcycles in Honeyborough also received loan assistance from the Pembrokeshire Lottery in 2012 to help him start up his business.

Mrs Davis was a winner during May. Mrs Davis is an LSA at Saundersfoot Primary School and was delighted with her win.

Mr Les Palmer was one of our June winners. Les received his subscription as a birthday present from his daughter so was even more surprised to get our call to say he’d won! Les told us that he and his wife hadn't quite decided what to spend their winnings on - what a nice dilemma!

Another lucky winner in June was Graham Bond, owner of Grahams of Manorbier, Graham told us the win had come at just the right time. He and his wife were just about to leave for  a well deserved holiday, so spending money was definitely sorted.

Our first July £2,000 winner was Stephen Edwards, who works for Pembrokeshire County Council and plays through their salary deduction scheme. And what did he spend his winnings on? A holiday with his wife – hope you both had a lovely time!

Mrs Prettyman, who lives in Milford Haven was another June winner. She told us that she was thinking of treating herself to a laptop with some of her winnings. A lovely lady and well deserving of a treat!

Amy - Jean Rees from Newport scooped a £2,000 prize in July. Amy-jean was chuffed to bits with her win and told us that she was planning to put the money towards her very own car, after having to share one with her brother. Another very happy customer!

Everyone involved in the Pembrokeshire Lottery has been a pleasure to meet and we would especially like to thank Abigail Owens for her ongoing support. It is fantastic that local businesses have the opportunity to approach the Pembrokeshire Lottery for assistance with funding and we would definitely recommend this option after such a positive experience.”

Pembrokeshire Lottery

Hello and welcome to your latest Pembrokeshire Lottery Newsletter!

January and February have flown by so we thought it was time we got in touch to keep you up to date with what’s been happening in our world.

Danny Fellows OBE

In February we said goodbye to the Pembrokeshire Lottery’s founder, Mr Danny Fellows. Danny passed away after a long illness and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him and worked alongside him. The original concept of a community lottery to raise funds to help our County’s economy was Danny’s and it was only through his hard work and tenacity that the idea came to fruition. Twenty years on, the Pembrokeshire Lottery is one of the UK’s most successful long term, sustainable economic regeneration schemes. A fitting legacy to an inspirational man.

Here’s a few of our most recent lucky winners….

Every week, someone wins £2,000! Have you been one of our lucky winners? Or will it be you next week?

Dean Deakin of Sunnyvale Holiday Park in Saundersfoot scooped the £2,000 jackpot in November 2013. When we presented his cheque, Dean hadn’t decided how to spend his winnings. What a nice dilemma to have, we hope he spent it on something nice!
Mrs Teresa Hogsflesh was a £2,000 winner in December last year.
Teresa, who is from Rosemarket, told us that she's always wanted to visit her family overseas and her unexpected windfall had made that dream a possibility. Book those flights Teresa!
Mr and Mrs Evans from Clarbeston Road were also £2,000 winners in December. As long standing supporters of the lottery, Mr and Mrs Evans were delighted with their win and told us they were planning to use the money to make it an extra special Christmas for their grandchildren.
Our lucky Christmas Day £2,000 winner was Firefighter Daniel Kempton. Daniel, who is based at the station in Newcastle Emlyn, plays through the Mid & West Wales Fire Service salary deduction scheme. Now, that’s what we call a Christmas present – certainly better than socks!
Owner of Tenby Taxis, Tim Lemon was a £2,000 winner in January. Tim has been very lucky with the Pembrokeshire Lottery, being a £2,000 winner twice so far! His first win took the family to Egypt on holiday and Tim told us he’ll probably be treating them to another trip this time.

Loan recipients.

As ever, our volunteer loan panel members have been working hard to assist local businesses to create more jobs. Here’s a selection of recent businesses who have received loan assistance.

Ceri-Ann Jones says “We borrowed £10,000 from the Pembrokeshire Lottery to help set up our restaurant Halen Mor on the Milford Haven Marina. Without this loan assistance we would have been unable to open. The investment went towards the interior set up ranging from tables and chairs to linen napkins. Now that we are open we are able to employ 8 members of staff and train two members of staff to NVQ level 2 Catering and Hospitality. We are forever grateful to the Pembrokeshire Lottery for their investment and we will endeavour to invest our expertise back in to the Pembrokeshire community.”

Yerbeston Gate Farm Shop received loan assistance from the Pembrokeshire Lottery in January. The funding will help the business to grow, by increasing the capacity of the manufacturing area for their bakery products.

A good news story from one of our many loan recipients!

All Pets Vet Care veterinary practice in Milford Haven received loan assistance from the Pembrokeshire Lottery when they opened in 2009 and has gone from strength to strength. We were very pleased to hear that the practice is now one of the top 4% of companies in the UK assessed by Investors in People, having achieved the impressive Investors in People GOLD award.

Investors in People is an industry benchmark for any size of organisation and is awarded to companies with clear management structures and goals and a special emphasis on leadership skills and the learning and development for all staff. To have been awarded gold is an amazing achievement on its own, but what makes it even more outstanding is that this is the practices first ever assessment.

Vet and director of the company, Billa Schleicher said: “Life in a vet practice can be quite busy and stressful and it would be easy to not give enough time and effort to staff development. Yet it is essential to our practice that we have a strong and happy team and putting us through the Investors in People assessment process meant that we could compare what we do not just to other vet practices, but to all types of other companies in the UK. We were delighted to exceed the basic standard by far and reaching the highest level on our first attempt!

Huge congratulations to Billa and the team at All Pets from us all at the Pembrokeshire Lottery.

A Gift Subscription isn’t just for Christmas!

We were kept very busy in December with lots of you choosing our gift subscriptions as Christmas presents. But don’t forget, a Pembrokeshire Lottery gift pack makes a great present at any time of the year!

Whether it’s for a birthday, anniversary or any other occasion, for him or for her, anyone from 16 upwards can receive a Pembrokeshire Lottery Gift Subscription.

You can choose a 6 month package for only £26 or a full year for £52 giving your recipient the chance to win £2,000 every week (and you can choose to pay monthly too if you wish)

Along with the paperwork, you’ll also receive a goody bag and gift card for you to complete, with a ribbon bow to make it a proper present. So make a date in your diaries to order your gift packs now!

Winners

Here’s another selection of some of our recent winners. Many local employers run salary deduction schemes for us, where players can choose to pay directly from their wages. There’s been lots of winners from these schemes lately, with prizes going to players from Pembrokeshire County Council, Hywel Dda Health Board and Silcox Coaches.

Gale Green   Gail Green is an orthopaedic practitioner at Withybush Hospital and plays through Hywel Dda Health Boards salary deduction scheme. Gail, pictured with her manager Roger Harris and colleague Steven White told us that the first thing on her wish list was a top of the range saucepan set. Happy cooking Gail, from the Pembrokeshire Lottery!

Gaynor Almond   Gaynor Almond, who was a winner in August, works at Milford Haven Leisure Centre and plays through Pembrokeshire County Councils Salary Deduction Scheme. Gaynor is pictured, along with her colleagues Marc Vaughan and Jamie Lewis.

Heidi John   Heidi John was a £2,000 winner in October. As she works at Silcox Coaches, Heidi was able to play the Pembrokeshire Lottery through the salary deduction scheme they run for us. When we presented her with her winner’s cheque, Heidi was looking forward to her upcoming holiday to Florida and told us that her prize would mean lots of extra spending money for the trip.

John Price   John Price won £2,000 in September. Mr Price, who works for Pembrokeshire County Council and plays through their salary deduction scheme, told us his winnings would probably go towards a holiday. As you were suffering from a horrible cold John, we hope you chose to go somewhere nice and warm!

Amanda Palmer   Amanda Palmer from Pembroke Dock is pictured here with her £2,000 cheque. Amanda's lovely daughter Ava was very forgiving when we had to pause Toy Story on the TV, to present the money! Amanda, who joined up to play at The Really Wild Festival earlier on in the year, told us she hadn’t decided what to spend her winnings on as she was still getting over the shock. Whatever you decided Amanda, we hope you enjoyed it!
